"Justice On Trial" navigates the tempest of the Abu-Jamal trial by reviewing the facts of the case. It demonstrates the major violations in the Abu-Jamal case – judicial bias, prosecutorial misconduct, racial discrimination in jury selection, police corruption and tampering with the evidence to obtain a conviction – are not unique to this case. Instead, they are commonly practiced within the criminal justice system and account for the disproportionate incarceration of African Americans and Latinos in the United States. The case of Mumia Abu-Jamal is a microcosm of greater problems in the criminal justice system in the United States today. The attention that its many violations have received, makes the Abu-Jamal case, one of the most important civil rights cases of our time.

"Justice On Trial" beschreibt die Heftigkeit des Strafprozesses gegen Abu-Jamal, indem die Fakten dieses Falls neu betrachtet werden. Der Film zeigt auf, dass die wesentlichen Gesetzesübertretungen im Prozess Abu-Jamal – Befangenheit des Richters, Amtsvergehen der Anklagevertreter, Rassendiskriminierung während der Geschworenenauswahl, Korruption der Polizei und Fälschung von Beweismitteln, um eine Verurteilung zu erwirken – nicht nur auf diesen Fall zutreffen. Stattdessen werden sie im Justizsystem allgemein angewendet und begründen die unproportional hohe Inhaftierungsrate von Afrikanisch-Amerikanern und Lateinamerikanern in den Vereinigten Staaten. Der Fall Mumia Abu-Jamal ist ein Mikrokosmos der größeren Probleme im Kriminaljustizsystem der USA heute.
