The movement for creation of Black Studies in Colleges and Universities began in the 1960's. Within the fervor of the Civil Rights movement, students that had participated in the movement and other intellectuals who understood the relevance of the movement, insisted that the values of civil rights be reflected in the curriculums of the ivory towers. Until this point, higher education's curriculums had marginalized other American ethnicities. The formal movement began with San Francisco State College. Other institutions such as the University of California and Cornell, among others would follow. Interviews include: Dr. Molefi Asante, author of "Afrocentricity"; Dr. Maulana Karenga, creator of KWANZAA; Haki Madhubuti, publisher, Third World Press.
